American Industrial Revolution
By Annabelle Bistue
Throughout the years of 1870 to 1930, which is known as Era 6, a great growth was marked. There were many changes and reforms, leading to more efficient machines and a stronger economy. With all these new machines, work was easier and more forms of transportation were made. An example would be railroads, which helped with getting to places and delivering goods faster, simpler, and even safer. Though Britain was seemingly the first to start industrializing and manufacturing, the United States had become the world's leading industrial nation by the early 20th century. With everything growing, more people began coming to America looking for work. Though this caused many urban areas and cities to become overcrowded; railroads and many other inventions were built quicker., and the major increase of steel and oil also helped speed up the processes with work. The people who came in search of work usually went to factories. With everyone working in factories, a lot more things got manufactured such as clothing. With more people coming in, more things had to get made. The people who worked there had to work more hours, and got paid less. The work area had very poor conditions and was extremely dangerous. Children were also being forced to work in these conditions for long hours. All of this led to strikes, and the formation of unions. While industrialization was a beneficial factor to America, it also had its detrimental outcomes, most of which got resolved. |

Era 6, (1870 - 1930), was a very important one for America, it marked a significant growth along with many changes and reforms. With the improvement of steel and oil industries, the railroad industry was able to grow during this time. The railroad industry helped getting people and goods places easier, faster, and safer. It also caused many immigrants from many different parts of the world come to America to find work. But, with too many people coming, the urban areas would become overcrowded. The increase of steel and oil allowed the industrial revolution to take off. With help of the steel and oil industries, railroads were able to be built quicker and many new inventions were created to help speed up the process with work. Along with the large increase of inventions, there was also a large increase in the American population. More and more people began to move from rural areas to urban areas in search of work in the factories and other places. The increase in population in the cities started to make the conditions of the city very poor. There were too many people coming to urban areas and they could not keep up with it. The cities began to be overcrowded, unsanitary, and unsafe. The working conditions were also becoming very poor. Workers had long hours, and had to work in unsafe conditions. Children even had to work in these unsafe areas for twelve hours, six days a week. These poor conditions led to many strikes and unfortunate events. Unions started to form and reforms passed to change the urban areas conditions, along with the working conditions. |
